head and the heart

Rocktober rolled on and I caught The Head and the Heart last thursday with my friend Erin Coffey at The Music Box. It’s a small venue with really awesome decor. I kind of want this in my house…

and a rooftop area which I really loved…

I wasn’t that familiar with the band beforehand so I started taking video as soon as I heard a song I liked. It turned out to be one of the opening bands – Lemolo, but that’s a good sign of things to come… here they are

The rest are Head and The Heart. I fell in love with the lead singer in his awesome striped jacket. Swoon.

And everyone jamming together, love when they do that…

All in all, a really great show with awesome energy and fabulous music. I have been listening to their album nonstop ever since.

beirut

Saw Beirut last night at the Greek Theater. Beirut is one of those bands that I have been listening to for years and I still have moments where, part way through a song I will think, wow, I really really love this song. LOVE.

I think Beirut is the closest thing I have to a favorite band. I am not good at picking favorite anythings. I don’t think I catch all the lyrics and I’m pretty sure I just sing gibberish a lot of the time but the music just resonates for me. If my soul had a theme song I think it would involve trumpets and ukuleles…

So- play the videos below. You don’t need to watch them. Just let them play and do other things and enjoy the tunes. I was so hypnotized that I would forget I was filming so it’s all a bit…drifty. Enjoy.

‘Goshen’ from the new album The Rip Tide

‘The Penalty’ from The Flying Club Cup (2nd album)

This was just to show what the Greek is like (amazing)

Lastly, just another color. We had great seats…first time I have ever paid more for a better section and totally worth it.

the rip tide

Named this post after the album I am currently obsessed with by the band Beirut

I recommend this song for these cloudy LA mornings we have been having (and I have been loving)

Get the whole album though…and everything they have ever done.

I see them Tuesday at The Greek Theater in LA. I’ll report back after.

ebullience

This is just the best. Fact.

deez tings

Once upon a time last year, I worked on this music video with a Partizan director, Ace Norton. I basically just drove him and the musician, Darwin Deez, around Venice. I was the go to director-driver for a while- who knows why considering I relied on my GPS to get me everywhere.

We rocked out to Yeasayer and Sleigh Bells on the road. I took some pictures. They shot some things. I hadn’t even thought about that day until I heard someone going on and on about how great Darwin Deez is. The name sounded familiar so I looked him up and look what I found…(HHW: huge hipster warning)

Over 3 million hits aint too shabby. Below are some behind the scenes pics I took. The sea was angry that day my friends…but it made for nice clouds.

This is the very mathematically exact way in which we figured out where Darwin had to stand.

That’s the whole crew by the way. We had the girl from the video with us to help carry some things. We wanted to be quick and sneaky for the shots in the library and Blockbuster (they kicked us out) so we had a small camera set up and no lights or sound. Simple. It’s a fun video and good song, hope you like.
